Chinese Tea Eggs


Boil Eggs:

  • 8-12 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
    3 cups water
    1 tablespoon light soy sauce
    1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
    14 teaspoon salt
    4 piece star anise
    1 piece cinnamon stick
    black tea (usually just get a black tea bag)


Cover eggs with enough water to cover. Add salt and bring water to boil and simmer for 3 minutes.
Remove eggs, rinse under cold water and roll in towel to crack shells.
Return eggs to water, add tea, soy sauce, salt, cinnamon and star anise.
Simmer for 3+ hours.
